It would appear that the Arizona Wildcats are going to operate as if they have something very important to prove as they line up for the Fiesta Bowl in their home state against the Boise State Broncos. But by the same token, they are going to encounter an awful lot of resistance.

For one thing, they might find themselves surrounded by a lot of Arizona State fans at this venue. But that may be the least of their troubles. Boise State has a balanced offense that is led by a senior quarterback (Grant Hedrick) who has progressed throughout the season. He is completing a cool 71% of his passes, and there is a good chance he can keep the Arizona defense honest with one of the top tailbacks in the country in Jay Ajayi, who has tallied 1689 yards on the season.

Of course, BetAnySports customers should not sell the Arizona offense short. Anu Solomon, the freshman quarterback, has played like a veteran, throwing 27 touchdown passes against only seven interceptions. Usually Rich Rodriguez’s option offenses emphasize the run more than the pass, but Solomon has really given them an excellent dimension through the air.

Boise State is on eight-game winning streak. During that time, they have scored 50 points or more on five separate occasions. They scored a nice win in the second game of the season against Colorado State, a team which went on to be nationally-ranked. But in their toughest test, in the season opener, they took it on the chin by a 35-13 score at the hands of Mississippi, which was blown away by TCU in the Peach Bowl. Those who are interested in stating a case for them would, of course, claim that Boise State had not hit their stride yet. And they are probably right.

Brian Harsin has stepped in and actually given this team some continuity. Yes, he was the head coach at Arkansas State last season, and the offensive coordinator at Texas before that. But BetAnySports patrons who have followed his career know that he was also an assistant for ten seasons at Boise State, so he has been around for some of the bowl game successes of this program. Remember that the Broncos have played in the Fiesta Bowl twice before, and were underdogs by a touchdown or more, and pulled off upset victories over Oklahoma and TCU.

And they do being some defense into this game. Boise State has registered 29 takeaways this season, so they are opportunistic, plus they know how to get some pressure on the quarterback, with 39 sacks. Certainly one of the key people for Arizona in this game is Nick Wilson, the freshman running back who has 1289 yards on the season. He will have to keep that pass rush honest. In their last two bowl games, against Nevada and Boston College, Arizona has scored a total of 91 points. We’re not so sure they’re going to be able to duplicate that. But they definitely don’t want to duplicate their last effort, as they lost 51-13 in the Pac-12 title game to an Oregon team they had beaten in the two previous encounters.
