The Florida State Seminoles know that they don’t necessarily have to have a breakout performance against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in the ACC championship game in order to get an invite to the four-team college football playoff. But considering the way FSU has been treated by the committee making all these decisions, they may want to be very decisive just to make sure.

There was one point the season when Florida State occupied the top spot in the Playoff Rankings. And they are still undefeated; in fact, the only undefeated team in all Division I college football. But even with their 28-game winning streak, and the the fact that they are the defending national champions, this team has slid to second, third and finally fourth in the rankings. All of the teams ahead of them have lost again. So BetAnySports customers know that this team would really like to put a stamp on a victory here; in other words, they’d like to leave no doubt, which is something that hasn’t happened often enough in the campaign. The Seminoles have had 12 victories, and six of them of come by a touchdown or less. The teams that they have had barn burners with maybe bowl-eligible, but they are not going to be part of the New Year’s Six either.

Georgia Tech obviously comes with one of those offenses that is hard to prepare for. When you run at the option with as much precision as Paul Johnson’s team does, you are going to be a handful for any opponent. That will be magnified if Justin Thomas can get his arm going. Thomas has thrown 16 touchdown passes on the season, so as NCAA football bettors are aware, it’s not simply a situation of crowding the line and stopping Georgia Tech running plays. The Yellow Jackets, who have won and covered their last five games, have been absolutely brilliant when confronted with third-down situations, converting 57% of them. No one in major college football does it better.

Meanwhile, Jameis Winston, who has been much-maligned for good reason, has brought Florida State back time after time after being behind, and it has been remarkable for BetAnySports patrons to see. The most dramatic of those occasions was against Louisville, which came into the game with the top-ranked defense in the country and got off to a 21-0 lead, only to see that defense crumble in the second half under a Florida State avalanche. This team, honestly, has looked like it can turn it on and turn it off whatever feels like it.

These teams have some history in the ACC championship game. Florida State emerged victorious two seasons ago, but by a margin that didn’t leave a lot of room for comfort (21-15). In last year’s conference title game, however, it was easy, as they blasted Duke 45-7 that was the last game of the five-game stretch in which the Seminoles outscored their opponents by a 278-34 margin. It’s safe to say things have been a lot more risky for this team in 2013, but they can deal with winning just like that as long as they can do it three more times.
