Total: 40 points

The Carolina Panthers are expected to have a heck of a time putting points on the board as they face off against the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Divisional Round of playoff action, which begins at 8:15 PM ET in Seattle. The reason is easy – Seattle has been on a defensive roll the likes of which is rarely seen in this era of pass-happy football. The Seahawks, who went into Saturday is the +200 favorite to win the Super Bowl at BetAnySports, have given up only 39 points in the last six games. Of course, it’s no surprise that they covered all six against the football pointspread.

On the season, Seattle is rated first against the pass and third against the run. They have allowed only 3.4 yards per rushing attempt, which means that it will be difficult for the Panthers to do what they prefer to do, which is to keep the ball on the ground utilizing Jonathan Stewart, who shook off some injuries this season to average 4.6 yards per attempt. And there can be little doubt among NFL betting fans that the Seattle defense is athletic enough to deal with Cam Newton, who has shaken off some pretty serious injuries of his own (including broken bones in his lower back as a result of a car accident) to rush for 539 yards.

Carolina is certainly one of those teams which comes in with some momentum. They have a five-game winning streak of their own, during which time they have yielded only 59 points. Admittedly they caught a break, despite a 7-8-1 regular-season record, in that they were able to host the first-round playoff game as a division champion against a team that was severely wounded at quarterback. But the results were still stunning, as they held the Arizona Cardinals to only 78 total offensive yards.

BetAnySports patrons who have watched this series between these two teams have noticed that in the last three regular seasons, they have played very tight, defensive games. In 2012 the Seahawks won by a 16-12 count, then had a struggle early in the 2013 campaign in a 12-7 victory. This season they limited the Panthers to 266 yards in a 13-9 win. All of those games took place in Charlotte, and now Carolina will be in a very extreme environment, as Seattle uses its “12th Man” to great advantage, in very noisy Century Link Field.

The Seahawks have outgained their opponents by a margin of 5.9 to 4.6 yards per play, and the return of linebacker Bobby Wagner from injury has been a huge difference-maker. Max Unger, the starting center, has also been cleared to return after a high ankle sprain kept him out of the lineup for six games. That didn’t seem to bother the Seattle offense, which averaged 170 rushing yards while Unger was out. The Seahawks are a sizzling 18-7-1 ATS at home with the nimble Russell Wilson at quarterback.
