NFL Betting at BetAnySports — Niners and Chargers Hope Field Won’t Make Them Look Sloppy

San Francisco 49ers 2014 NFL Betting at BetAnySports

The San Francisco 49ers were kind of ashamed of themselves for the way they played last week in the opening game at their state-of-the-art ballpark. On Sunday afternoon they have a chance to redeem themselves in front of the hometown fans when they tackle the San Diego Chargers in NFL pre-season betting action that is set to begin at 4 PM ET at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.

The new facility apparently did not provide enough inspiration for the Niners, who got nothing going on offense and went very meekly against the Denver Broncos by a 34-0 score. They haven’t gotten a relief boost out of Blaine Gabbert, who BetAnySports customers recall was a first-round draft pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars but didn’t work out there.

San Diego also has some reason to be rattled a bit, as they went to Seattle and were blasted 41-14 at the hands of the defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks. if they are going to make some advances in the AFC West, from which they secured a wild card berth last season, they are going to have to show more solidity than they did on the defensive line in that game.

In the NFL betting odds that have been posted on this game by the folks at BetAnySports, the Niners are laying points:

San Francisco 49ers -6
San Diego Chargers +6

Over 41.5 Points -110
Under 41.5 Points -110

Obviously the rationale on the part of oddsmakers is the fact that the Niners, one would figure, are looking to make up for the embarrassment of that defeat. But you also have to cast some doubt upon that, based on coach Jim Harbaugh’s comments that don’t indicate much of a sense of urgency. Some coaches like to get winning efforts out of their team in the pre-season, while others place priorities elsewhere, and Harbaugh would rather get his guys some playing time and get a few roster spots settled than to plan specifically for a particular opponent.

So it doesn’t seem to matter that Gabbert has been completely non-productive, averaging only 2.6 yards an attempt, which would rank him dead last in almost any league. Harbaugh likes the way he’s been looking in drills.

NFL bettors at BetAnySports want to take note of issues with the field at Levi’s Stadium, where the surface obviously has not caught up to everything else. A public practice session for Wednesday was lowlighted by divots and players losing their footing constantly, before it was mericfully cut short. The sod was beaten up badly in that game against Denver. So the entire surface was removed on Thursday and replaced with new sod that reportedly is thicker. But it still is questionable enough that a big high school game between Jesuit and De La Sallie had to moved out of the stadium.

What will San Diego’s level of motivation be here? Well, BetAnySports patrons can rest assured that the Chargers have been placing emphasis on their run defense, which was literally ravaged by the Seahawks, who had 243 yards on the ground against them. NFL bettors saw that Philip Rivers played only one series last week, so he will almost certainly get a lot more work this week; that is, if the footing holds up.
