NFL Betting — Panthers Try to Get Back on Winning Track Against Jets

Coming off a game where they did not play too well against the New Orleans Saints, the Carolina Panthers return home to Charlotte for a date with the New York Jets in NFL betting action that is scheduled to get underway at 4:05 PM ET at Bank of America Stadium.

The Jets, who scored a win last week against the Oakland Raiders, are 6-7 straight-up and 7-6 against the NFL pointspread. The Panthers had won eight games in a row before last week’s 31-13 defeat at the Superdome. They are 9-4 straight-up on the season, which gives them position for an NFC wild card spot, with a tie-breaker over San Francisco, who they defeated. Carolina is 8-5 against the football odds.

In the NFL betting lines that have been established on this game at BetAnySports, the Panthers are double-digit favorites:

The Panthers are in kind of an interesting scheduling situation here. On the one hand, they are a little angry after being handled so easily by the Saints, but on the other hand they have to turn right around and face off against New Orleans again next week. So are they in that “look-ahead” situation, with the rationale that they might still have a chance to win the NFC South? Yes, maybe they are, but sportsbook bettors know that they can’t take advantage of that unless they can win here.

Geno Smith was 16 of 25 for 209 yards last week, but the fact remains that he has committed 24 turnovers on the season, and he encounters a Panther defense that has more teeth than any stop unit he has faced this season. Although Carolina has allowed opponents to complete 67% of their passes, they have also intercepted 16 passes. And they have allowed only three rushing touchdowns all year, which is outstanding work. The Jets will have a hard time developing an infantry here, but BetAnySports customers know that they also have the potential to slow down what Carolina wants to do best on the offensive end, because New York has yielded just 3.1 yards per rushing attempt.

Both of these teams are in the top ten in the NFL in terms of how many yards per drive they allow to their foes. Certainly the Panthers are in better shape if their QB has to be the guy who wins the game for his club, but the best sack artist on the field is New York’s Muhammad Wilkerson (he’s got ten). Could this be a bruising defensive battle?
