NFL Betting – Vikings Make the Move to Freeman in Time to Play Winless Giants

The New York Giants are the team that comes into the Monday night game with a winless record, yet it is the Minnesota Vikings who are making a move at the quarterback spot and may be playing to save their coach’s job.

That’s the situation as these teams square off at 8:40 PM ET at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ. In the NFL betting odds that have been placed on this game at BetAnySports, the Giants are favored to capture their first victory of the season:

A lot of Minnesota fans sat back in horror as Christian Ponder started to give the ball away in the season opener against the Detroit Lions, turning a game that was winnable into a fiasco. After three interceptions, the Lions had come away with a 34-24 victory. The Vikings had Matt Cassel as a backup, and turned to him when they went to London to play against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He delivered a solid game and the team won a 34-27 decision, their only triumph thus far. But then Cassel threw two interceptions in a 35-10 loss to Carolina, and another change was determined to be in order.

With a 1-4 record and a 2-3 mark in NFL betting, the Vikings are turning now to the guy they just acquired as a free agent. Josh Freeman burned his bridges in Tampa Bay, where very rapidly he lost the respect of the clubhouse and his head coach, Greg Schiano. As the Bucs struggled, he was sent packing. And as Minnesota has now struggled with its own quarterback play, Freeman who was given his outright release by Schiano, became an attractive proposition. Freeman was signed and has been given a quick indoctrination to the offense. And after last week’s defeat, he was announced as the starter. At this point, he has had minimal time getting used to the offense and hasn’t had a lot of reps.

As BetAnySports customers may want to take note of, there are people within the organization who have talked about how “fluent” Freeman was with the team’s offense and that there was a common thread between the scheme the Vikings run and the one Freeman was exposed to at Kansas State, because of the connection between Bill Musgrave, the team’s offensive coordinator, and Ron Prince, who was head coach at KSU. Ironically, Prince is now the offensive coordinator at Rutgers, which is where Schiano has been head coach until last year.

Perhaps the best team Freeman could possibly break in against is the Giants, because in New York (well, New Jersey) they are on a course to set an NFL record for the most points allowed in a season. This defense has given up 34.8 points a game, and like Minnesota, they have yielded a 49% success rate in third down, which NFL bettors know is unacceptable by anyone’s measure. With a mistake-prone Eli Manning (15 interceptions), Freeman and the Vikings may get plenty of chances.
