NFL Odds – Rampaging Broncos Lay Two TD’s to Radiers on Monday Night

The Denver Broncos look like a freight train that just keeps on coming. On Monday night Peyton Manning’s team will play host to the Oakland Raiders, in a game that is scheduled to kick off at 8:40 PM ET at Sports Authority Field at Mile High. The game will be televised by ESPN.

The Raiders put on in the win column last week when they beat the hapless Jacksonville Jaguars, while the Broncos have won both games by wide margins behind the explosive arm of Manning.

In the NFL odds that have been posted by the folks at BetAnySports, the Broncos are laying a ton of points:

Oakland Raiders +14
Over 48.5 Points -110
Under 48.5 Points -110

Of course, the Broncos are fully capable of scoring a ton of points, to the extent that the people compiling the NFL lines have it very tricky when it comes to establishing an over / under figure,. After all, Denver has blown open both of its games, which were close at one point in the second half. They beat Baltimore 49-27 behind SEVEN touchdown passes by Manning, and then last week they pulled away from the Giants when Manning’s brother Eli started to self-destruct. The final was 41-23, and even though Eli threw for more yardage, he tossed four interceptions, while Peyton was spotless. His season totals are nine TD’s without a pickoff, and nine yards per attempt, as BetAnySports patrons continue to marvel at what he can do.

They’ll try to get some balance going, and if Knowshon Moreno repeats his effort form last week (93 yards) they won’t have a hard time in doing so. They will be going against an Oakland defense that has nine starters who were not with the team last year. If you look at the numbers, they have done a credible job, allowing just 4.5 yards per play

Of course, in one of those games they were facing the “Peyton Manning of the future” in Andrew Luck, but the Peyton Manning of the present is still much more formidable. The team total on Denver for this game is 31 (-110 either way). Can they beat that number?

Maybe they can, but Terelle Pryor thinks he can have something to say about the way this thing turns out against the NFL pointspread. This is a quarterback who the Raiders preferred over Matt Flynn because he can make a lot of things happen with his feet. Indeed, Pryor has 162 rushing yards after two games, and if Oakland encourages him to run more and more, he may be on his way to a record-setting season for a signal-caller. He is still a work in progress when it comes to throwing the football, but it won’t hurt him if Darren McFadden continues to produce, as he has in lifting his yards-per-carry average up to 4.9 in the early going.

On key to this game is the way Denver will handle the loss of Ryan Clady, who is gone for the season with a foot injury. Clady is one of the best left tackles in the business, and thus he protects Manning’s blind side. Denver will employ Chris Clark as the starter; he is a four-year veteran but may have a big task ahead of him, because Oakland has already chalked up nine quarterback sacks.
