NFL Props – Peterson May Be Needed More Than Ever by Vikings on Monday Night

NFL bettors have a lot of options in terms of player propositions at BetAnySports, and it stands to reason that one of those propositions is going to involve the man who should be the best player on the field on Monday night, as the Minnesota Vikings square off against the New York Giants.

We are talking, of course, about Adrian Peterson, the reigning MVP who was the “comeback kid” a year ago but is now dealing with performance that has fallen short of expectations, both individually and on the part of his team, as well as a personal disaster.

In the NFL props that have been established at BetAnySports, these are the numbers on Peterson hitting the century mark in rushing:

Over 99.5 Yards -140
Under 99.5 Yards +110

Peterson suited up and played last week in the 35-10 loss to the Carolina Panthers, despite having just heard about the loss of his two-year-old son, having been murdered at the hands of someone who was living with the “baby mama” in South Dakota. Maybe his mind was somewhere else; maybe there was a natural distance in his mind because of the fact that he had only become aware of the existence of this child a couple of months ago.

It is a bizarre story, and maybe something where, in many ways, he was getting hit with a lot of strange news at once. We can’t get in his head. But he went out and carried ten times for 62 yards in the 35-10 loss to the Panthers.

NFL bettors anticipate that he should be playing a key role in the game on Monday night, since Josh Freeman, who is making his debut at quarterback on relatively short notice, can use all the help he can get.

Peterson had his best season ever in 2012, and it was made even more dramatic by the fact that he was coming off knee surgery which ended his 2011 campaign after twelve games. Last season he rushed for 2,097 yards an averaged an unreal six yards a carry. And speaking of carries, he practically carried his team to the playoffs, despite the presence of a very inexperienced quarterback (Christian Ponder). This was recognized by the writers, who voted him the league MVP.

Going into this season he told anyone who would listen that his personal goal was to reach 2,500 yards, and NFL bettors took notice. Well, things have not exactly turned out that way.

Don’t get us wrong; Peterson has averaged 4.7 yards a carry, and he’s o pace to gain around 1,500 yards. But he hasn’t dominated. Yes, he is a victim of his own standards. And somehow, when it comes to Peterson, who will certainly go down in history as one of the great backs the NFL has seen, you always get the sense that there is something he can do to change the course of a game. That adds an awful lot of intrigue in pro football betting.

The Giants have a defense that sees inviting to NFL props bettors, because it has given up 34.8 points a game. At the same time, they have actually done a relatively decent job against the run, yielding just 3.9 yards a carry. You can bet that they are going to try and stop the run first, daring Freeman, with his limited grasp of the playbook, to beat him with his arm. That could make it tougher than usual for Peterson on Monday night.
