NFL Week 3 Betting Preview

NFL Week 3 Betting Preview
We are two weeks into the new NFL season and there are seven teams sitting at 2-0 and there are seven more still looking for their first win of the year. This sets the stage for some crucial showdowns in Week 3 considering that a 3-0 start dramatically raises the odds that a team makes the playoffs, while a 0-3 start suddenly becomes a pretty big hole to climb out of.

Two of the biggest surprises so far reside in NFC South with the Carolina Panthers off to a 2-0 start after posting back-to-back victories over Tampa Bay and Detroit and the New Orleans Saints starting 0-2 after suffering road losses to Atlanta and Cleveland as favorites.

The Panthers will face Pittsburgh on Sunday night as 3.5-point favorites at home. BetOnline has set the total for this inter-conference clash at 42. Carolina is 7-0-1 against the spread in their last eight games as a home favorite.

The Saints will try and get back to their winning ways as heavy 10.5-point home favorites against Minnesota with the total set at 51. The Mercedes-Benz Superdome has always been a tough place to win a game and it is one of the main reasons that New Orleans is 10-1-1 ATS in its last 12 home games as a favorite.

Another big surprise at 2-0 both straight-up and ATS is the Buffalo Bills, who started the season with a stunning 23-20 overtime upset in Chicago as 6.5-point underdogs. This week the Bills will tangle with San Diego as slight one-point home favorites on BetOnline’s current NFL betting odds. The total is set at 44. Buffalo comes into this game with a 5-1 record ATS in its last six games as a favorite at home.

Indianapolis was touted as a legitimate Super Bowl contender before the season started, but it is off to a 0-2 start. The Colts have a good chance to end this skid on Sunday as seven-point road favorites against 0-2 Jacksonville. The total line for this AFC South matchup has been set at 45.5. Indy is 5-2 both SU and ATS in the last seven meetings in Jacksonville.

The Houston Texans have won their first two games and they will try and maintain that two-game spread over the Colts in the AFC South with a win this week against the 0-2 New York Giants. BetOnline NFL Sportsbooks has listed Houston as a slight one-point road favorite with the total set at 42. The Texans are just 2-5 ATS in their last seven games as road favorites, but New York is 0-5 ATS in its last five home games against a team from the AFC South.
