The Chicago Bears in San Diego Chargers each have issues with personnel who are injured as they come into the Monday night game. For the Bears, it’s a problem that is especially hard to rectify, as Matt Forte, a unique player in the NFL in that he is equally dangerous as both a rusher and a receiver, will have to sit out this game with a knee injury. They’re going to replace him with Jeremy Langford, a rookie out of Michigan State who had pretty good numbers for the Spartans last year, rushing for over 1500 yards, but did not prove to be a big receiving threat. In fact, he caught only eleven passes as a senior. With wide receiver Eddie Royal out of action as well, clearly Jay Cutler’s options are reduced.

But as BetAnySports customers know, San Diego doesn’t do a whole lot in the way of resistance to the other team’s offense. Let’s illustrate that for moment. The Chargers have allowed 70% completions by opposing quarterbacks, with 19 touchdowns. They have permitted 6.6 yards per play, and have allowed more yards per drive than all but two teams in the league. They will also be missing, in all likelihood, two key pieces to the defense. Manti Te’o, the former Notre Dame linebacker, is definitely out with an ankle injury, and Eric Weddle, the Pro Bowl safety whose future with the Chargers is in some doubt, as it turns out, has been termed a game-time decision with his groin pull.

Of course, you can’t talk about the Chargers without talking about Philip Rivers, who leads an offense that has gained more yards per game than anyone else and more yards per drive than any team outside of Arizona. And Rivers has been almost a one-man show, taking matters into his own hands like no other quarterback in the league. The Chargers have thrown the ball 66% of the time, and Rivers could be on his way to setting the all time one-season record for most passing yards.

What stands in his way? Well, BetAnySports and VietBET USA online sports betting patrons may have heard that Keenan Allen, who was on pace for 134 receptions, will miss the rest of the season with a lacerated kidney. But Rivers is fortunate in the sense that he has a number of other options. These include tight end Antonio Gates, wideout Malcom Floyd (19.5 yards/catch) and running back Danny Woodhead, who happens to lead the league in yards after the catch with 476.

And the Chicago defense, which has had difficulty transitioning into a 3-4 alignment under coordinator Vic Fangio, is an inviting “target,” if you will. They are 28th in the league in points allowed per drive, and they don’t get a very effective pass rush going. Unless Pernell McPhee can really take advantage of the absence of San Diego’s left tackle, King Dunlap, they are just going to permit Rivers, who makes decisions quickly, to spray the ball all over the gridiron. Can the Bears keep pace? Well, if you are leaning toward the Chicago side, you’d be encouraged by the fact that San Diego has covered just one of its last nine home games, and one out of his last seven against teams with losing records.
