Football Betting – QB Palmer Out For Cardinals Against Giants

Football Betting -- QB Palmer Out For Cardinals Against Giants
Carson Palmer, the former Heisman Trophy winner who helped lead the Arizona Cardinals to a 10-6 record last season in his first season as a starter, has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the New York Giants due to a shoulder injury. The Cards will kick it off at 1 PM ET in football betting action at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ.

It is being described as a “nerve thing” by Arizona coach Bruce Arians. Palmer hardly threw at all in practice this past week and tested the shoulder out today. Things did not work out, and so Palmer has been made inactive. Drew Stanton, the former Michigan State quarterback, will take his place.

The Card opened their season with a come-from-behind 18-17 win over San Diego, while the Giants tripped all over themselves in a 35-14 defeat at Detroit. Both of those games were on Monday night.

Obviously this has created some line movement. In the NFL betting odds that have been posted on this contest at BetAnySports, the Giants are now the favorites:

Stanton did very well for the Cards in the pre-season, completing 71% of his passes, but the problem is that he has been strictly a pre-season quarterback the last few seasons. In fact, he has not thrown a pass in a game since December 2010, when he was a member of the Detroit Lions. The upside here is that he is not a raw rookie being pressed into action. And he has been able to take a lot of snaps with the first team over the course of the last several days in practice.

Bet Any Sports customers saw that running back Andre Ellington, who was listed as questionable with a foot injury, did indeed play against San Diego, and more will probably be expected of him this week.

The Giants may be the team with more offensive questions, after racking up just 197 yards against the Lions. Eli Manning has not shown experts from the best NFL betting sites that he is comfortable yet in Ben McAdoo’s West Coast scheme, and Eli was just 18 of 33 for 163 yards with two interceptions as he continues to try and figure things out. He tossed 27 picks last year, and McAdoo’s hope was that he could complete close to 70% working within the new approach. To put it mildly, this is still a work in progress.

New York’s offensive line must also make the adjustment to not only not having Chris Snee available (he retired), but also being without Geoff Schwartz. Manning has not had his full complement of receivers since the beginning of training camp. This is an odd situation for the Sportsbook fans that wager on NFL, with Arizona coming all the way east for an early game, but what might be stranger is that the Cardinal quarterback may know his offensive playbook better than Manning know his.
