NCAA 2015 Football Futures: Odds to Win the SEC

Ever since Nick Saban has been at the helm as Alabama’s head coach you can usually expect the Crimson Tide to open as one of the top favorites to win the SEC each year. Heading into the 2015 campaign that has not changed, but looking at 5Dimes’ recently updated futures odds to win the SEC title this season, things could still be pretty interesting with a handful of other teams in the mix.

Alabama is still at the top of the list at +305 betting odds to win another conference title and its odds to win a national championship are second-best on the board after Ohio State (+305) at +950. The Tide return a good chunk of talent on both sides of the ball from last season’s run all the way to the national semifinals of the first ever college football playoffs including Heisman hopeful Derrick Henry at running back.

Next on 5Dimes’ list to win the SEC this season is the Georgia Bulldogs at +475. They are favored to win the SEC East Division at +167. The Bulldogs were ranked eighth in the nation last season in scoring with an average of 41.3 points a game on their way to an overall record of 10-3. Their powerful ground game will be led by Nick Chubb, who is a +1125 third-favorite to win this year’s Heisman Trophy.

Alabama’s arch-rival Auburn is next on the list to win the SEC as a +500 third-favorite. A set showdown on Nov. 28 at home could go a long way at determining which of these two teams represents the West Division in the annual conference championship game in early December. Auburn’s college football betting odds to win the division are set at +355, with the Tide set as +215 favorites.

Moving down the list in the SEC, LSU is listed fourth at +725 followed by Arkansas at +950 to round-out the top five teams in this conference. Both of these programs also compete in the West and they are each in prime position to play the role of spoiler earlier in the regular season. The Tigers’ odds to win the division are set at +490 and the Razorbacks are listed as +575 fourth-favorites at the online Sportsbooks to make their way into the SEC title game.

Two dark horse teams to watch in the SEC this season could be Mississippi and Tennessee. The Rebels’ odds to win the conference are set at +1000 and a much improved Volunteers’ squad is listed at +1200 betting odds to stun the field. Top
