NFL Betting – Browns Try to Take Big Step With Win at Lambeau

GREEN-BAY-PACKERS-2014-NFL
The Cleveland Browns probably know that they have their work cut out for them when they go to play the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field on Sunday afternoon. After all, the Packers have posted seven straight covers in NFL betting on their home field. But these are the hurdles you have to overcome when you are looking to establish a program, as head coach Rob Chudzinski is trying to do. The game kicks off at 4:25 PM ET.

In the pro football betting odds that have been posted at BetAnySports on this game, the Packers are clear favorites:

Green Bay Packers -8.5
Cleveland Browns +8.5

Over 45 Points -110
Under 45 Points -110

Cleveland is in a rebuilding mode, but they are rebuilding with purpose. A lot of people thought they were crazy when they traded Trent Richardson away in exchange for a draft choice from the Indianapolis Colts. But they are going to need that draft choice as part of a package that could land them a quarterback in the NFL Draft. The word is that they were interested in Johnny Manziel, the Heisman Trophy winner from Texas A&M.

It would appear they’ll need a “quarterback of the future” since Brian Hoyer, who was doing pretty well in an audition, is out for the year and Brandon Weeden continues to have a rough time. Weeden has started three games, and the Browns have not covered any of them in the NFL odds. He has been sacked on 10.5% of his dropback attempts, which is awful. And he has completed only 56%.

The Browns are trying to do different things to perk up the offense, and some might say they are making strides. Tight end Jordan Cameron has becomes a legitimate guy for them to look to, as he has 38 receptions. Josh Gordon is averaging 17 yards per catch. And the ace return man, Travis Benjamin, is likely to get much more of a look in this offense. However, they are going to continue to have a hard time supplementing al of this with a running game, because Willis McGahee (2.8 ypc) is not the answer. And as we have said, the quarterback position is not solidified by any stretch.

Defensively, the Browns have some things that BetAnySports customers can probably appreciate. For one thing, they are capable of getting some pressure on opposing passers (19 sacks), so Aaron Rodgers isn’t likely to be able to stand back there alone all day long. And the secondary has limited opposing passers to just 5.8 yards an attempt and a 74.1 quarterback rating, compared to 108.2 for Green Bay.
