NFL Betting — Can Dallas Deal With Oakland’s New “Dynamic Duo”?

The Dallas Cowboys are in a dogfight with the Philadelphia Eagles for “supremacy” in the NFC East. On Thursday they will tangle with the Oakland Raiders, whose playoff hopes have just faded, in NFL betting action for Thanksgiving afternoon, beginning at 4:30 PM ET at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX.

The Cowboys are a solid 8-3 against the pro football pointspread. Oakland is now 4-7 straight-up; if they had been able to beat Tennessee last week they would have been among a group of teams with 5-6 records, and would have actually had a tie-breaker edge for a wild card. Instead, they have to hope that a lot of teams lose, while winning out themselves. The Raiders are 6-5 against the football lines.

In the NFL betting odds that have been placed on this game by BetAnySports, the Cowboys are favored by more than a touchdown:

The Cowboys had a very strange series of games recently. They knocked Nick Foles out of the game against the Eagles, then intercepted Matt Barkley three times in the fourth quarter of a 17-3 win over Philadelphia, and everybody was talking about their defense. Then they collapsed late against Detroit, losing in the final seconds (31-30) and had to really scramble at home to beat the sagging Minnesota Vikings. NFL bettors saw them absolutely roll over for the New Orleans Saints, giving up more than 600 yards and 40 first downs, which set an NFl record, in a 49-17 defeat. And last week, in a game against a New York Giant team that had won four games in a row, they played well, allowing “only” 356 yards and winning on a Dan Bailey field goal as time ran out.

This team still gives up a lot of yards (432 per game), allowing 22 TD’s through the air and 5.1 yards per rush attempt. That should be a red flag for pro football bettors analyzing the NFL lines at BetAnySports.

That’s because Oakland has been getting some very serviceable quarterbacking from Matt McGloin, who has thrown four TD’s in two games and has a road win under his belt (against the Houston Texans) and great production from Rashad Jennings, who spent some years with Jacksonville, where he didn’t have a whole lot of success, but may have found a home in Oakland, where he has been filling in for Darren McFadden and has now produced more yards from scrimmage (rushing & receiving combined) than any other running back in the league.

Now McFadden is returning from his hamstring problem, and if the Raiders have him for spot duty, that provides excellent reinforcement. NFL bettors know that against a team like Dallas, which is defensively-challenged, this could be a winning formula for a team that is a +350 underdog in the pro football money lines for this game.
