In approaching some of the 1 PM ET games in the NFL, we thought it might be important for you to be apprised of some of the things you might not have caught within the last 48 hours when it comes to developments that might affect your plays on Sunday.
The Carolina Panthers, who are two-point favorites over the Chicago Bears at BetAnySports, could be severely short at running back. Mike Tolbert, the guy who adds a lot of power in the backfield, is out of action, and DeAngelo Williams has a high ankle sprain that makes an appearance doubtful. Jonathan Stewart is going to try to play, despite a knee injury. And then there are second-line backs beyond that. The Panthers are not in very good shape in that aspect as they face the Chicago Bears as two-point favorites.
Jake Locker is going to be the starter at quarterback for the Tennessee Titans as they play host to the Cleveland Browns. Locker, who seems to be dealing with injuries all the time, has a bed wrist, but he would appear to be a better alternative than Charlie Whitehurst, who started last week’s game against Indianapolis in which Tennessee got blown out 41-17. The Titans are one-point underdogs to the Cleveland Browns.
The Philadelphia Eagles, who are four-point favorites over the St. Louis Rams, maybe on their way to correcting at least some of their problems on the offensive line. Three starters will be playing in their normal positions, which is two more than last week as the offense went limp against San Francisco.
The Atlanta Falcons, who visit the New York Giants and are getting 4.5 points in the NFL betting lines at BetAnySports, are without center Joe Hawley and tackle Lamar Holmes, so they will be handicapped on their offensive line. And it looks like Eli Manning will have access to the teams first-round draft choice, Odell Beckham, who hasn’t seen much action since the beginning of training camp. The wide receiver out of LSU is considered to be someone who can help Manning stretch the field.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who are 10.5-point underdogs to the New Orleans Saints in the football betting odds, will be starting Mike Glennon at quarterback, as Josh McCown sits out another game with a thumb injury. Glennon, however, will be without the team’s first-round draft pick, big wide receiver Mike Evans, who will be missing with a groin injury.
The Dallas Cowboys, laying five points at BetAnySports as they play host to the Houston Texans, already had personnel issues on the defensive side, and now they will be missing cornerback Morris Claiborne and linebacker Bruce Carter. Expect Arian Foster, the workhorse running back for Houston, to be a little healthier that he was last week, as he is dealing with hamstring issues.
The Buffalo Bills, who visit the Motor City to play the Detroit Lions, will be starting Kyle Orton at quarterback in place of EJ Manuel. That’s not because the former first-round draft pick is hurt, but it is the hope of coach Doug Marrone that Orton will pick up his reads on offense better than Manuel did. For Detroit, All-Pro wide receiver Calvin Johnson is a question mark, as he has a sprained ankle. Detroit is a 4.5-point favorite at BetAnySports.
