NFL Betting: Top Four Running Backs in the AFC

BET-HOUSTON-TEXANS-LIVE

There has been a deluge of good running backs in the AFC that seems to have caused many teams to become competitive. The Buffalo Bills relied almost exclusively in their running game to win games last season and it looks like the Bills could be heavily dependent on running back C.J. Spiller in 2013 as well. Cleveland’s Trent Richardson made an impact last season and he looks to be a big part of the growing development of the Browns. Let’s take a look at the four running backs that the NFL betting experts consider to be the best in the AFC.

NFL Betting: AFC Running Back #1: Arian Foster – Houston Texans

The best running back in the AFC is Arian Foster. If you were to ask the general managers in the AFC, you probably will not get much debate about that statement. Foster is a key part of a potent Houston offense that looks to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl this season. Foster has had three consecutive seasons of 1,000+ rushing yards and he managed the feat in 2010 and 2011 with only 13 starts. Arian Foster will be a dominating factor in the AFC playoffs this season.

AFC Running Back #2: Maurice Jones-Drew – Jacksonville Jaguars

It is too bad that Maurice Jones-Drew feels uninspired by the Jacksonville offense, because this guy has the potential to be a game changer at any point in a game. After holding out for much of last year’s preseason, Jones-Drew was hurt in game one of last season and missed the rest of the regular season. He claims that he is healthy and ready for the new season, which would be a positive thing for the Jaguars. Maurice Jones-Drew always has been, and will be for as long as he is a part of the team, a huge part of the Jacksonville offense.

AFC Running Back #3: Chris Johnson – Tennessee Titans

Chris Johnson of the Titans and Jamaal Charles of the Kansas City Chiefs are very similar in the way they are built and the way they play the game. They are smaller backs who have a lot of speed. But Johnson seems to have an extra gear that few other running backs have. He is going to be a cornerstone of a Tennessee offense that looks to be much improved in 2013-14. His speed and elusiveness allow him to gain yards regardless as to what kind of blocking he is getting up front.
AFC Running Back #4: C.J. Spiller – Buffalo Bills

C.J. Spiller showed last season that he can be a featured back and he can change the momentum of a game in just one play. He averaged nearly six yards per carry last season, but he was woefully under-utilized by former head coach Chan Gailey. Bills fans hope that new head coach Doug Marrone sees the value of Spiller and gets the ball to the Buffalo running back.
