The Falcons, who are often very formidable on the fast track at the Georgia Dome, got off to a very fast start against the Bucs the first time around, and the game was essentially over in the second quarter. After three quarters it was 56-0, and by that time Tampa Bays starting quarterback, Josh McCown, was out of the game with a hand injury. That injury has kept him out of action until right now. He has been practicing for a few weeks, and coach Lovie Smith has decided to insert him into the lineup in place of Mike Glennon, in an effort to get something going on the offensive end.
In the action he has seen, the veteran has completed 63% of his passes with two touchdowns and four interceptions. Rookie Charles Sims should be available to add some depth. But these guys have a long way to go; Tampa Bay has been outgained by 96 yards a game. The numbers for Atlanta’s offense and point production are not impressive over the last four games, however. And Atlanta, with only seven sacks on the season, is not likely to put a lot of pressure on McCown.
The Falcons have been notoriously bad on the road, losing eleven of their last 12 straight-up when they are the visiting team. Perhaps this is one of the things that can provide an opening for the Buccaneers, who have dropped all four of their games, both straight-up and against the football betting pointspread, at Raymond James Stadium.
