NFL Odds — Giants Look to Stay Alive – Barely – As They Face Redskins

The New York Giants have gone through a very strange and difficult season, and looked like they had risen from the dead to be contenders, until a cruel stroke of fate last week. Now, with a feint glimmer of hope, they square off against the Washington Redskins in an NFC East encounter that kicks off at 8:30 PM ET at FedEx Field in Landover, MD.

The Redskins have not been able to catch fire like they did last year when they rallied in the second half of the season to win the division title. Last Monday night they looked like a team that was just dragging ass to the finish line when they were rattled 27-6 by San Francisco. And there are questions about a little unrest in the locker room.

In the NFL odds that have been established on this game at BetAnySports, the game is a pick’em affair:

Robert Griffin III is not even completing 60% of his passes (he’s a shade below that), which could mean that this game becomes more of a matchup between the Washington running game, led by Alfred Morris, and the New York defensive line. Morris, who had a great rookie year out of nowhere (he was a sixth-round draft pick out of Florida Atlantic who gained 1613 yards last season), has run for 970 yards with five yards a carry. But the Giants have been pretty good against the run, allowing only 3.7 ypc. Whether that is going to be affected by the absence of Jason Pierre-Paul (shoulder injury), who is primarily known as a pass rusher, is a subject for speculation by NFL bettors.

If you’re looking for some encouraging signs form the Giants, one is that Eli Manning has thrown just two interceptions in his last five games, and that Andre Brown seems to have taken the bull by the horns with the running game. He has rushed for 308 yards in the three games since he has returned form an injury. For BetAnySports customers who are thinking of backing the Giants, this softens blow of Brandon Jacobs’ absence.

Another subject that deserves mention is that of Hakeem Nicks. As most pro football bettors are keenly aware, the Giants lost their first six games of the season and then came on to win their next four. They are not eliminated mathematically just yet, but it would have been much better for them had they not lost at the final gun to Dallas last week. Nicks missed that game as Tom Coughlin sat him out because he did not practice enough last week. Indications are that the situation had changed, and that the abdominal pull that kept him out of last week’s game would not do the same this Sunday.

“I think I showed them enough this week in practice,” he told reporters. “So I think everything will be good to go.”

Football bettors know it would be advantageous for Manning to have as many weapons as possible at his disposal, because the Redskins simply have not done a very good job defending the pass, as opponents have completed 66% with 22 TD’s and the average pass attempt has gone for 8.4 yards. Don’t be at all surprised if Manning looks to stretch that Washington secondary early. Where do you go to get the best and largest selection of odds and props on NFL games?
