NFL Super Bowl XLIX Betting Preview

NFL Super Bowl XLIX Betting Preview, Both favorites prevailed in this past Sunday’s NFL conference championships, but while New England put an exclamation point on its first AFC title since the 2011 season, the defending Super Bowl Champion Seattle Seahawks needed all sorts of late-game heroics to punch their ticket back to the big game.

The Patriots crushed Indianapolis 45-7 as seven-point home favorites to represent the AFC in Super Bowl XLIX in Phoenix, but they come into this showdown as slight one-point underdogs on 5Dimes’ opening NFL betting odds for the game. Seattle erased a 12-point deficit midway through the fourth quarter of its NFC title matchup against Green Bay to escape with an unlikely 28-22 victory in overtime as an 8.5-point favorite at home. The total stayed UNDER 52.5 points in New England’s lopsided victory and it went OVER 45 points in the Seahawks’ win. The betting odds on the total for the Super Bowl have been set at 45.5.

Both of these teams have proven to be formidable opponents on the field so it is easy to see why the spread is so tight, but some of the past football betting trends surrounding this matchup tend to lean in Seattle’s favor.

The Patriots are just 2-5 against the spread in their last NFL football betting seven games against a team from the NFC West and they has lost three of their last four games against this division SU. Their recent performance in the postseason has also been costly with a 5-10 record ATS in their last 15 playoff games. This will be New England’s eighth appearance in the Super Bowl in franchise history. It has won just three of its first seven games SU and it is a woeful 1-5-1 ATS.

Seattle comes into this matchup with a 6-1 record ATS in its last seven games against a team from the AFC East. It has won 10 of its last 14 games SU against the AFC in general, but it has gone 2-5 ATS in its last seven games against this conference. The Seahawks have been a solid bet in their recent playoff runs with a 5-2 record ATS in their last seven postseason games.

Head-to-head in this showdown, Seattle has a 6-2 edge both SU and ATS in the last eight meetings and the total has gone OVER in the last three games between these two. Top
