Depending on who you talk to, the Oakland Raiders have either surprised people or done exactly as expected, as they have gotten off to a 4-1 start to sit atop the AFC West. On Sunday, they will go up against a Kansas City Chiefs team that should be somewhat fresh coming off a bye week, and somewhat determined after being beaten like a drum in their last contest. Oakland is averaging over 28 points per game, and they have had a lot of success running the football, using the “committee” approach. That means a combination of Jalen Richard, Latavius Murray and DeAndre Washington, all of whom have between 170 and 175 yards on the year. The Chiefs have allowed 4.5 yards per carry, so by that measure this has not been the most successful season for them.
As far as Kansas City’s own fortunes on the ground are concerned, they are doing reasonably well, as Spencer Ware has filled in well for Jamaal Charles, averaging over five yards per attempt. And Charles, who came back to action, in a limited capacity, against the Steelers, should be ready for some more activity this week.
