Pro Football Bets — Dolphins Try to Put Scandal on Hold as They Tackle Chargers

The Miami Dolphins have been through a lot of off-field turmoil that may or may not have affected their ability to play their best last Monday night. They are far from escaping from that turmoil, but they will try to soldier on nonetheless as they play host to the San Diego Chargers in NFL betting action that is set to kick off at 4:05 PM ET at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, FL.

The Dolphins have a 4-5 record this season, both straight-up and with pro football bets. The Chargers are 4-5 straight-up and 5-3-1 against the NFL pointspread. Both teams are one game behind the New York Jets, who hold the second wild card position in the AFC right now.

In the NFL lines that have been posted on this game at BetAnySports, the Chargers are the slight favorites on the road:

Under 45 Points -110

The Dolphins have, of course, being going through all of the attention surrounding the Richie Incognito-Jonathan Martin “bullying” incident, and it is not over by a longshot, with the NFL hovering over the matter right now and Incognito’s camp announcing this week that he has filed a grievance against the team over his indefinite suspension, to recover his weekly salary, which is almost a quarter of a million dollars. Martin has sat down and talked to officials assigned by the NFL, but no representatives from the players’ union were involved in the meeting.

Do not discount that this will get more intricate and even more bizarre as time unfolds, and that it could affect the way the Dolphins perform relative to the pro football bets placed by BetAnySports customers.

How much Miami was affected last Monday night remains a subject for speculation, but they went to Tampa and handed the Buccaneers their first win of the season. The Dolphins fell behind 15-0 but caught up, only to lose the lead on a late touchdown drive by the Bucs. Supposedly the “leadership council” Joe Philbin has put together had another meeting about how everybody was feeling. Incognito used to be a member of the council, but obviously is not anymore.

One issue the council can’t really resolve: the 37 sacks suffered by Ryan Tannehill this year. Down two offensive linemen, the road is uphill for this team in that regard. Nate Garner is playing Incognito’s position, and Tyson Clabo is filling Martin’s spot, and none of this promotes a consistent running game either.

San Diego has its own problems with the offensive line. The injury report lists center Nick Hardwick and guard Chad Rinehart as questionable, along with King Dunlap, the left tackle, as “out.” Rookie DJ Fluker is making the shift to left tackle. It must be noted, for those making pro football bets, that the Chargers have been able to play through all of this to maintain a position as the team that gains the most on a per-drive basis in the NFL (40.2 yards). So don’t underestimate the ability of Mike McCoy, Ken Whisenhunt & Co. to come up with a game plan.
