Pro Football Betting – Colts Have to Get Along Without Top Receiver Wayne

Those people who are engaged in pro football betting know that the Indianapolis Colts are going to be a dangerous team as long as Andrew Luck is taking snaps from center. On Sunday night they could be less dangerous without one of the best receivers in the National Football League when they meet up with the Houston Texans in the NBC-televised game that is set to begin at 8:30 PM ET at Reliant Stadium in Houston.

The Colts are the leaders in the AFC South division, at 5-2, while the Texans, the defending division champs, have been a disappointment, losing five straight games after starting the season with back-to-back victories.

In the pro football betting odds that have been established on this game at BetAnySports, the Colts are very slightly favored as the visitor:

Is there any doubt that Indianapolis is ready to vault itself into the upper reaches of the NFL? The Colts have scored those wins over San Francisco, Seattle and Denver, and those teams happen to be among the favorites to win the Super Bowl at BetAnySports. So when you are talking about possibilities at the end of the season, you have to consider the chances for the Colts. Andrew Luck has made progress in terms of his ability to cut out costly mistakes, and indeed he has thrown only three interceptions, whole completing almost 61%. And to beat those teams we mentioned above, you have to be operating with ice water in your veins.

But Luck has now experienced the loss of his most trusted and valuable weapon. Reggie Wayne, who was one of the great receivers in recent years, but who went down with a torn ACL in the win over Denver. There are obvious reasons why this is a big factor for pro football bettors in this game. Luck will now have to look toward other targets, and naturally one of them is going to be Coby Fleener, his teammate at Stanford, who has hauled in 22 passes, four for TD’s. And TY Hilton is a speedster who can take it “to the house” at any given time. but he is not consistent. Darrius Heyward-Bey, who was acquired in the off-season, can fly, but he just hasn’t turned that into a lot of production. Wayne was a guy who really carved up Houston, averaging better than ten catches per game over the course of his career.

Trent Richardson, who was picked up by the Colts amid much fanfare, has also not produced the way the team thought he would, as he’s tallied just three yards a carry. Expect coach Chuck Pagano to turn more to Donald Brown, who has averaged almost six yards a carry.

What Indianapolis wants to do here is get some pressure on Texans’ quarterback Case Keenum, who is making just his second pro start. And they have just the guy to do it in Robert Mathis, who is now enjoying more of the spotlight after Dwight Freeney left town. Mathis is earning a trip to the Pro Bowl, as he is leading the league in sacks with 11.5. This is the player Houston has to keep out of the backfield.
