Pro Football Betting — Could First Pick Be At Stake in Jags-Texans Game?

Sometimes pro football bettors like to think negatively. And so the subject that comes up when discussing the game between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans on Thursday night is whether the loser is ultimately going to wind up with the top choice in the NFL Draft.

This game takes place at EverBank Field in Jacksonville and is scheduled to get underway at 8:30 PM ET.

We will say this much – it looks as if the Texans are vying for that top pick with a little more verve than the Jags, based on the fact that they have lost ten games in a row, while Jacksonville has won three of its last four contests.
In the pro football betting odds that are posted at BetAnySports on this game, the Texans are the favorites on the road:

Generally when evaluating bad teams, one of the issues is the quarterback position. It would be the opinion of many that Blaine Gabbert, who was a first-round draft choice for the Jags, was a bust, although he has been injured an awful lot. And since Chad Henne (six TD passes with ten interceptions) looks very much like a career backup, the consensus, not just among NFL bettors but most NFL fans, is that Jacksonville could probably use a new quarterback.

In Houston, they were ready to run Matt Schaub out of town after throwing so many interceptions that resulted in touchdowns for the other side. But then the switch was made to Case Keenum, and while he hasn’t set the entire league in fire, BetAnySports football betting customers have seen that he is popular as a favorite son, so the lynch mob isn’t out on him. Not only that, but Keenum has not made a lot of critical mistakes.. He has thrown the ball 190 times, and only three of those have resulted in an interception.

That having been said, maybe he hasn’t done enough to cement himself as this team’s quarterback of the future.

Many of the mock drafts you’ll see have Louisville’s Teddy Bridgewater as the likely #1 pick. That might or might not be the case; there is a combine and some “pro days” that have to be conducted, and you never know what other candidates might rise to the top. Maybe there are teams who will look to trade down – if Houston wants to play the “favorite son” card, it can make a play for Johnny Manziel. There are numerous possibilities. Either way, if a team with ten straight defeats that is laying points on the road in pro football betting is going to win and cover, they are going to have to do a better job on offense than Houston did when it played Jacksonville eleven days ago, when the Texans got just eleven first downs. Keenum averaged five yards an attempt, there was just 26 minutes of possession time, and Ben Tate was missing. Let’s see if his presence makes a difference.
