Pro Football Betting — Eagles After Sixth Win in Row Against Minnesota

The Philadelphia Eagles are a team that seems to be starting to bring it all together offensively. On Sunday afternoon they will be taking on the Minnesota Vikings in NFL betting action that is slated to get underway at 1 PM ET at the Mall of America Field in Minneapolis.

Chip Kelly’s team has not won five games in a row. The Eagles are now 8-5 straight-up and 7-6 against the football pointspread. The Vikings, who have obviously been a disappointment, are 3-9-1 straight-up a year after securing an NFC playoff berth. They are 7-6 against the NFL odds.

In the pro football betting lines that have been posted on this game at BetAnySports,. the Eagles are, of course, road favorites:

Philadelphia has a one-game lead over Dallas in the NFC East, and Chip Kelly is shaping up as a real coach of the year candidate. His team moves the ball to the tune of 409 yards a game. Nick Foles has taken the quarterback reins from Michael Vick and is leading the league in passer rating, averaging nine yards an attempt and throwing 20 touchdown passes with just one interception.

The Eagles (+1200 to win the NFC championship at BetAnySports) have huge weapons; LeSean McCoy has built All-Pro credentials with 1305 yards (five yards a carry) and had his best game of the year in the snow last week against Detroit in Philadelphia’s comeback win. And DeSean Jackson has 1080 yards receiving, with Foles able to spread the ball around to a number of other receivers. During this particular five-game winning streak, Philly has averaged 31.6 points. This is what they want to do; force other teams to go out there and outscore them.

Pro football bettors know that the stop unit can be accommodating. The Eagles have allowed just a shade under 400 yards a game. But the Vikings are just as permissive. And they have permitted 29 touchdown passes this year.

Can the Vikes trade points? Well, the team has been rather feisty lately, getting a tie at Lambeau Field, beating Chicago in overtime and losing a game with a very wild finish against Baltimore over the last three weeks.

But let’s put it this way – it’s going to be very hard for them to get some balance in this offense to assist matt Cassel, who gets the start at quarterback despite Christian Ponder having been cleared to return. Adrian Peterson and Toby Gerhart are going to miss the game. That leaves Matt Asiata and Joe Banyard to man the running back position. Without somebody like Peterson, we wonder whether we could count on Minnesota, which has played eleven of its 13 games over the total in the NFL odds, to continue that trend.
