The Miami Dolphins have done a very good job of moving their opponents off the ball. And on Sunday they are going to try to keep themselves going with an unusual balance on offense as they take on the San Diego Chargers. The Dolphins have actually undergone a complete transformation. The Chargers are a team that has lost at least three of its five games in heart-breaking fashion. Are they better than their record? Maybe they are. But they also don’t quite know where they are going to be next season? And he has had to operate without such weapons as wide receiver Keenan Allen and pass-catching tailback Danny Woodhead. Antonio Gates is three TD’s away from the all-time record for touchdowns at the tight end position (held by Tony Gonzalez), but rookie Hunter Henry is the guy who is getting most of the action, and he is listed as questionable here. So is the explosive Travis Benjamin.
But the contributions of Melvin Gordon can not be discounted. The second-year running back out of Wisconsin has 768 yards, and almost reached the 200-yards mark last week in the 43-35 victory over the Tennessee Titans. He is just as important to the Chargers as Ajayi is to the Dolphins.
