Looking at the pointspread, not to mention the money line, where Cincinnati is a -550 favorite, there isn’t a whole lot of support out there for the Houston Texans to end the undefeated string of these Bengals, who are getting a Pro Bowl-level season out of Andy Dalton, with his 18-4 TD-INT ratio and 8.6 yards an attempt – a huge figure for a guy who has been cited time and time again for his lack of arm strength.

You can’t game plan easily for this team anymore, because they can go with power or finesse in the backfield, when it comes to the combination of Giovanni Bernard and Jeremy Hill, and have a number of outlets who can go out there and make something happen at the other end of one of Dalton’s passes. Consider that Bernard himself has always been a capable receiver, and that now there are alternative outlets outside of AJ Green.

BetAnySports patrons who have been on the Bengals all year (and with good fortune, as they have a 7-0-1 ATS record) have been treated to nine touchdowns by tight end Tyler Eifert, who is doing his best Rob Gronkowski imitation (and not a bad one at that). Throw in Marvin Jones and Mohammed Sanu, and you can’t just concentrate on Green anymore.

Houston’s defense isn’t what it used to be when Wade Phillips was making the calls. Sure, they still have the All-World defensive end, JJ Watt, who has 8.5 sacks, but they need more than he can provide. The Texans are yielding 4.4 yards per rushing attempt, and that would appear to leave an opening for the Bengals, who are just waiting for Hill to break out big.

The Texans’ camp has not been the most stable environment. Maybe those HBO cameras (for “Hard Knocks”) got them off to a bad start. But Bill O’Brien, whose colorful language caught the attention of many viewers in the BetAnySports audience, put the offense into confusion early by playing musical chairs at quarterback. Maybe he had a little too much faith in Ryan Mallett, who had some personal issues (missing team flights for road trips is never a good idea) and was cut. They are better off with Brian Hoyer, who has been efficient (13 TD’s, three INT’s), and they are getting an All-Pro season out of DeAndre Hopkins. Nate Washington (411 yards) hasn’t provided bad accompaniment, and Cecil Shorts is expected back in action here. But without Arian Foster, this team just struggles way too much to run the ball, and there is not much to turn to beyond Alfred Blue (273 yards).

is payback a motivation for coach Marvin Lewis and the Bengals? It could be; among their SIX first-round playoff exits under Lewis, the Texans were responsible for two (2011 and 2012).
