Football Betting at BetAnySports — Bills Hope For More as They Have Surrounded Manuel With Help

In the National Football League there are a number of franchises who show an awful lot of optimism from year to year, only to disappoint, every year. It is fair to say that the Buffalo Bills fall into that category. And it is ironic that on a weekend in which one of the great team members of the past (Andre Reed) gets inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, as one of several Bills who went to four Super Bowls, we can legitimately wonder how long it’s really going to be before Buffalo ever gets to that point where they can even make the playoffs again.

There are going to be some growing pains associated with having a young quarterback. The Bills had to know that when they drafted EJ Manuel in the first round out of Florida State last season. Coach Doug Marrone, who is also entering his second year, hopes that Manuel can make a big step forward, and that road begins on Sunday night as Buffalo faces off against the New York Giants in the Hall of Fame game, set to kick off at 8 PM ET, to be televised on NBC.

In the football betting odds that have been posted at BetAnySports on this game, the Bills will be the favorites:

Buffalo Bills -2.5 (-130)
New York Giants +2.5 (+110)

Under 35 Points -110

Manuel’s statistics were not horrible in his first season; he completed almost 59% of his passes with 11 touchdowns, and through nine interceptions. In other words, while he didn’t set the world on fire, he had his moments, and his experience was not catastrophic. The Bills traded Stevie Johnson to the San Francisco 49ers, but they made up for by acquiring more talent at the wide receiver spot. Mike Williams, who can bring size to the position, came over from Tampa Bay. And the Bills invested their first-round draft pick on Sammy Watkins, the Clemson wideout who was expected by many to be a big-play receiver right off the bat. Football bettors at BetAnySports know that if Manuel does not succeed this season, it won’t be for a lack of weapons.

Running back CJ Spiller did have a decrease in production last season, but there is no doubt about the fact that he is one of a handful of RB’s in the NFL who can go all the way any time he touches the ball. He has gained over 2100 rushing yards from scrimmage over the past two seasons. The enigmatic Bryce Brown will join him in the backfield this season. The former Philadelphia running back has had his share of off-the-field problems, but anyone who witnessed his first two NFL starts in 2012, where he gained 347 yards, knows exactly what he can do.

The Bills (priced at +3500 to win the AFC in the football betting futures at BetAnySports) ranked 22nd in the league in points scored and had to improvise to get a starting quarterback on the field when Manuel was going through injury problems. What they need is an offense that can generate some big plays, as they are well within reach of surpassing teams like the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins in the AFC East. Catching up to the New England Patriots will be quite another story, and certainly nothing will be conclusive after Sunday night.
