New England Patriots at Houston Texans NFL Preview – December 1, 2013

On Sunday, December 1st, two football teams will go head to head. The New England Patriots are at the top of the AFC East, with a record of 8 wins and only 3 losses. The Houston Texans are currently ranked last in the AFC East with a record of only 2 wins and 9 losses. While some sports analysts think that the Patriots will continue to dominate the AFC East, the fact is that the Texans have stats that are pretty close to the Patriots. Something else to consider is that the Patriots may not be playing up to expectations because of the fact that the Texans have such a bad record this season.

The Patriots are dominating the AFC East and want to continue to do so, but the Texans should not be counted out because they are trying to break a 9 game losing streak, and taking down the team at the top of the AFC East might just put them back on the road to winning. For people who do not know about the history of these two teams, here is more information on the New England Patriots and the Houston Texans.

The History of the New England Patriots

In 1959, a businessman named William H. Sullivan, also known as Billy, was the leader of a group of Boston businessmen, and these businessmen were given the eighth and final franchise of the American Football League. To help name the new team, Sullivan and the businessman turned to the people of Boston to find a new and suitable name for the team.

After receiving many submissions, the name that was suggested the most was the “Patriots.” Sullivan officially named the team the Boston Patriots. The Boston Patriots played for the next 11 years until the National Football League and American Football League came together in 1970. Also in 1970, the team moved to a new stadium, and then changed their name to the New England Patriots.

The History of the Houston Texans

The Houston Texans does not have the long history that the Patriots have.
The team has only been in the AFC since 2002. In 1997, the city of Houston was facing the fact they did not have a football team anymore after the Houston Oilers moved to Tennessee and became the Titans.

While some people predicted that it would take 10 years for professional football to come back to Houston, two men named Bob McNair and Chuck Watson got Houston its new professional football franchise in only 5 years.
Football is an unpredictable game, and no matter how good the records are of two teams facing one another, no one will know that outcome until game day. The Patriots and Texans face each other this Sunday, and all eyes will be watching to see if the Patriots can beat Houston or if the Texans will continue their losing streak.
