It would be very simple to say that the Denver Broncos have the edge over the Indianapolis Colts simply because they have the better running game and the better defense, as these teams meet up in the AFC Divisional Round at 4:40 PM ET at Sports Authority Field. But those are two pretty good reasons for football bettors to consider, aren’t they?

After all, the Broncos feel they are now rather formidable on the ground and they are going to act accordingly. Peyton Manning has always wanted to have a consistent running attack at his disposal, and now he appears to have one with CJ Anderson, the second-year man who has averaged over 100 yards over his last six games. If you have watched, Denver, they definitely look very much like a team that would like to keep the ball out of enemy hands. And now they have more ability to do it.

The objective is keeping Andrew Luck off the field. And that’s not a bad notion. Luck has 4761 yards, which is a little more than Manning, and has 40 touchdown throws, which is one more than Peyton has. He can connect for the big play to TY Hilton, and there is no telling how good that guy can be. The biggest problem for the Colts – and BetAnySports football betting patrons are well aware of this – is that they have lacked the ability to play ball control themselves. If Ahmad Bradshaw had stayed healthy, that would not have been the case, but no, because of the non-production offered by Trent Richardson, have to rely on Dan Herron. Not that the guy is chopped liver; indeed, he caught ten passes out of the backfield last week as the Colts beat Cincinnati. But can they hand the ball of to him, time after time?

No team in the NFL gives up fewer yards per drive than the Broncos. So the first-year arrivals on defense – veterans TJ Ward, Aqib Talib and DeMarcus Ware – have really done their job. If Indy winds up being one-dimensional, they could still wind up getting their yards, because Luck is utter fearless. But that “gunslinger” mentality can also lead to mistakes, just as it used to with Brett Favre. The way Manning looked at it, having the running game was a safeguard against making critical errors, because HIS balance kept the opposition OFF balance. We are thinking that the Colts are going to have to have a lot of luck to protect Luck. You know what we mean.
