Pro Football Odds – Eagles Meet Up with an Old Friend and Mentor on Thursday Night

The Philadelphia Eagles and Andy Reid may have become something of a stale combo toward the end, but on Thursday night they will be reunited for a few hours when the Kansas City Chiefs come to tow for a game that kicks off at 8:30 PM ET and will test the abilities of BetAnySports customers to beat the pro football odds.

The game takes place at Lincoln Financial Field in the City of Brotherly Love. Television is provided by NFL Network.

The lines that have been posted on this game at BetAnySports have the Eagles laying points, but not many:

Judging from what has happened with the Chiefs in the early stages of the season, the effect of hiring Andy Reid, who was fired by Eagles management at the end of last season, has been felt. Let’s forget for a moment that Reid’s Philadelphia team tied with Kansas City last year for the most turnovers in the league.

What has helped the Chiefs beat the pro football odds in the first two games is the fact that they have avoided any TO’s at all. Alex Smith would seem to be the right man at the right time. The former #1 overall choice in the NFL Draft was reborn in San Francisco when Jim Harbaugh was hired, and part of it was that he was able to play a controlled game, keeping it in his own team’s hands.

Well, Kansas City (the +155 underdog tonight in the BetAnySports money line) has played error-free football and has won against both Jacksonville and Dallas. Remember that they have one of the top running backs in the NFL in Jamaal Charles, so they have they opportunity to create some ball control. That will help Smith immeasurably over the course of time.

Where the Chiefs had been a passive team when it came to putting pressure on the quarterback, they have come out of the box quickly this year, with six sacks of Jacksonville quarterbacks in Week 1 and three more on Tony Romo last week. The perception has always been that Kansas City had talent, but needed a mentor who was able to bring that out. Reid might be that guy.

There is a very big challenge coming for the Kansas City defense, and BetAnySports customers know it. Chip Kelly’s offense (which is -130 to score first in the pro football props) may get figured out at some point, but it largely a mystery to many NFL teams, and in this particular case Reid, despite his familiarity with the Eagles’ personnel, still only has a coupe of days of prep time to get ready for this radical offensive approach on the part of this opponent.

Michael Vick has not thrown an interception yet. And he is making his throws count, as they have gone for over ten yards an attempt. There is nothing trivial about the numbers running back LeSean McCoy (237 yards on ground) and wide receiver DeSean Jackson (297 yards through the air) have put up. If Kansas City needs to get into a situation where they have to trade points, can they do that against this Philadelphia defense that might be more aggressive this season, but still needs to be classified as a work in progress?
