Week 13 NFL Previews Lines & Trends – Jacksonville Jaguars at Cleveland Browns

The Jacksonville Jaguars will play the Cleveland Browns who will be trying to grab a win after a series of losses in the last two games. The Browns were a playoff contender only two weeks ago, but after two disappointing losses they are now finding themselves looking at a last place finish. On the other hand, the Jacksonville Jaguars’ chances of reaching the postseason had disappeared a long time ago, but that fact still hasn’t prevented them from playing good football as of late. The Browns lay their hopes in the return of Brandon Weeden, hoping he could turn things around, making his first start in over a month.

Jacksonville Jaguars at Cleveland Browns – NFL Preview – December 1, 2013

LOOK AT THE CLEVELAND BROWNS (4-7): The Browns suffered back to back losses (by 37 points combined) which set them back a lot from their very good position in the unclear AFC playoffs waters. They have finished at the last place of the AFC North eight of the previous ten years and now they find themselves at that same, all too familiar, spot. Their postseason chances remain slim as they try to get a win out of the game against the Jaguars, keeping their hopes alive, as a loss would probably eliminate them from the playoffs race for this season. Lately, the Browns have been faced with some turnover problems, committing four TO in consecutive games, which was the first time for this team since December 2004.

Weeden was responsible for two of those TOs, replacing Jason Cambell who’s suffered a concussion in the first half of the 27-11 loss against Pittsburgh on Sunday. Weeden finished with 13-30 for 209 yards, adding a touchdown and one interception. He also fumbled once. With Campbell still out of the picture, Weeden will start for the first time since October 20th, when they lost to Green Bay. The last time Cleveland won with Weeden as a starting quarterback was Dec.9.

LOOK AT THE JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS (2-9)

The Jaguars seem to be making some progress from their reputation of a potential winless club after a terrible eight straight double digit losses at the start of the season. Now they have won 2 out of 3 games, winning on the road against Tennessee and Houston as they try to get their first consecutive wins which last time happened back in December 2010.

A great and solid defense has been the key to Jacksonville’s rising form with 218 yards surrendered in the last week’s 13-6 win against the Texans, with that being the fewest they have allowed as back as two years. Run defense had yielded 58.0 yards on average in the previous three games, having yielded 161.8 on average in the first 8 games. Jacksonville improved their offense as well versus Houston.

Maurice Jones-Drew attained his best season record totaling 144 yards, finishing the third game in a row with a touchdown. However, he could face some problems against a Browns’ solid defense ranking 6th against the run with an average of 97.7 yards per game. Jones-Dew has an average of 100.7 rushing yards in the last 3 games against the Browns.
