Game Overview

The Detroit Lions are currently at the top the NFC North and will be looking to grab a key road win when they take on the Steelers at Pittsburgh. At 6-3, the Lions have a clear one-game advantage over Chicago Bears and Green Bay in the race for the division title. Considering that four out of Detroit’s final six contests will be at home, a road win against the Steelers would put Detroit in a favorable position for the playoffs. On the other hand, the Steelers are just 3-6 till now and rank near the bottom of the points table.

Whether it be injuries or sheer ineffectiveness, the Steelers have not had much to boast about this season. They are currently just 27th in the rushing yards per game and have allowed the fourth-most yards on the defense side. Pittsburgh’s defense play has been erratic all season, with the same being commendable at times and also forgettable at others. The offense play has also had its issues, with the Steelers averaging only 19.9 points per game, which comes to 25th in terms of ranking. To add salt to their wounds, the Steelers are languishing right at the last in the AFC with a turnover differential of minus-11.

On the other side, the Detroit Lions are coming off a huge road win against the Chicago Bears and look set to win the NFC North. Offense is the most vital weapon in the Lions’ armory. Matthew Stanford and his team do make up for the faulty defense. The 6-3 record has not been easy to achieve as the Lions have had their share of close games this season. Although Detroit has allowed 27th-most passing yards on an average, it has performed well against the run and is currently ranked 8th in rushing defense.

As regards the players’ list, the Steelers wont have the services of rookie Shamarko Thomas as he is out with an ankle sprain. The left calf injury of Linebacker LaMarr Woodley has made his availability doubtful for the game. Even defense player Brett Keisel’s inclusion is questionable due to his foot injury. Things, however, look much brighter in the Lions’ camp. Calvin Johnson looks finally set to play this game, while the inclusion of Reggie Bush will give the Lions their long-awaited boost.

Though the Lions would start off as favorites, they should not underestimate their opponents at any time during the game. This upcoming Detroit Lions Vs. Pittsburgh Steelers promises to be a gripping contest.
